A family-run distribution company is celebrating the official opening of its new multi million pound hub in Willenhall, which has been part funded by Lloyds TSB.
Aspray Transport, of Noose Lane, Willenhall, hopes the new facility will help the company double its capability, and also create hundreds of jobs.
Aspray was founded in 1982 by present managing director Patrick Laight. He began operations with just one vehicle and a small site in Bilston Lane, Willenhall, and from these humble beginnings has grown Aspray into a company with 437 staff, 300 vehicles and an annual turnover of £20 million.
The company now has ten depots throughout the UK, including its Noose Lane headquarters.
Aspray specialises in transportating hardware - everything from nuts and bolts to fasteners, which its home town of Willenhall is world famous for.
Among the company's customers are Assa Abloy, whose Security Products UK subsidiary owns the Yale, Union and Chubb brands, and Jaton, the largest distributor of fasteners in the UK.
As well as the now completed warehouse - which features a £1.3 million conveyor system - additional land houses a fuel facility, a lorry wash, and a state- of- the- art secure gatehouse.
The total investment in developing the additional land has been £8 million, of which £5 million has been provided in a funding package from Lloyds TSB Corporate and Lloyds TSB Commercial Finance.
Mr Laight said: "As a result, we have a facility which will allow us to increase our capacity from 6,500 consignments per night to 15,000. This will also lead to a doubling of jobs at Aspray. We hope our expansion will come from sectors linked to our niche hardware sector, such as plumbers' merchants."
Ian Fitzjohn, Lloyds TSB Corporate senior manager, said: It is companies such as Aspray which are going to be the providers of jobs in the future in Willenhall."
Aspray will show off its new facilities at an official opening day next Monday.
