Asda is set to reveal the secrets to becoming a successful supplier.
West Midlands food and drink producers interested in winning business, or just looking for guidance on taking the important steps into large scale retailing, are being offered the chance to attend a Heart of England Fine Foods presentation with Matt Hulsey, ASDA regional buyer at the Minworth Supercentre, Sutton Coldfield on October 6.
The presentation will explain Asda's local sourcing strategy and basic requirements to potential suppliers and will cover distribution, barcodes, sales targets, audit processes and location.
Asda is the UK's second biggest supermarket chain for market share with 17 per cent. It lists more than 200 local suppliers and 1,400 local product lines - growth on these is 54 per cent year on year.
Jeremy Boote, from North Staffordshire Oatcakes, who has worked with several Stoke-on-Trent stores over the years, will be giving an account of what it is like to be an Asda supplier.
The firm's oatcakes are an example of one of Asda's best selling local lines.
Heart of England Fine Foods was formed in 1998 to promote and raise awareness of food and drink from within the West Midlands and seeks to help food and drink businesses to develop, expand and create profitable and sustainable markets for their products.
