West Midland group Armstrong Burton has announced a jobs boost along with record turnover.

Staff numbers are up 40 per cent over the past year - from 21 in 2004 to 52 now.

Turnover has risen from £1.8 million for 2004 to £3.2 million last year, a jump of 77 per cent.

The Sutton Coldfieldbased business, which specialises in property services, claims to be one of the largest businesses of its type in the region.

It has launched planning consultancy and building services divisions in the past year adding to its existing architectural and structural divisions.

Principal Derek Burton told the firm's annual gathering: "We are now a truly integrated consultancy - a one-stop shop for the property and building sector."

During the past 12 months the company has gained planning permission for 1,459 residential units, and worked on 973

retirement homes and 4,229 houses, a record total of 5,202.

Mr Burton said they had been part of the planning appeals team for Pegasus Retirement Homes and achieved success in four out of four public inquiries - the last awarded, with costs against Walsall Council.

The planning division had won two out of three planning appeals in its first year of operation.

The firm also acted as architects or engineers on design and build, or traditional contracts with a total value of more than £50 million.

Armstrong Burton is heavily involved in the residential sector, but is now hoping to grow the commercial and industrial side of its business.

Mr Burton said: "We are keen to expand our activities and aim to achieve this in part by organic growth, but we are also looking at acquisition.

"The latter is something we have achieved very successfully in the past with the incorporation of three other businesses to date."
