An historic Midlands garden centre has been transformed by a £5 million revamp.

The new-look Webbs of Wychbold site was unveiled by two-year-old Archie Webb - a direct descendant of the centre's founder in the nineteenth century.

The investment created around 150 new jobs taking the workforce to 400 and making the company one of the biggest local employers. A weekend of celebrations followed the unveiling of the completed site on Friday, with events including special offers, tastings, demonstrations and competitions throughout the store. Helen Griffee, Webbs' communication officer, said: "Lots of people were there so we are delighted." Little Archie cut the ribbon to mark the project's completion at the family-owned business, near Bromsgrove.

Archie is the son of executive chairman Ed Webb - who is the great, great, great grandson of Edward Webb who started the family business.

Webbs' origins are traceable to the mid nineteenth century when Edward Webb was an agricultural merchant trading from the West Midlands. By the end of the century Webbs was a household name and was appointed seeds provider to every monarch in succession from Queen Victoria to Queen Elizabeth II.
