UK software and IT services company Anite Group - which looks after the document and record management requirements of Telford & Wrekin Council - yesterday unveiled a share buyback programme after a strong performance at its telecoms division saw underlying full- year profits exceed City forecasts.

For the 12 months to the end of April, the group reported a 39 per cent rise in pretax profits from continuing businesses of £17.3 million, as underlying sales rose four per cent to £ 162.9 million.

The group, which has sold a number of non-core international businesses over recent months to concentrate on the public sector, travel and telecoms markets, said it would buy back £3.5 million of its shares.
