Passengers planning to fly from Birmingham International Airport this summer are set to benefit from newlycompleted work by Anglo Holt Construction.

The West Bromwich-based design, construction and fit out specialist has completed a 40-week, £2.5 million contract to provide 12 additional check-in desks and new baggage-handling facilities.

The project, which increased the capacity of the check-in area at the airport's Terminal One, required Anglo Holt to carry out the full mechanical and electrical design and installation.

The firm was also responsible for the installation of fully automated high-capacity baggage handling conveyors and control systems.

This latest contract win marks Anglo Holt's return to the airport in under a year. In March 2003, Anglo Holt completed the construction of a new passenger lounge.

Meanwhile, constructionfirm Mansell has picked up a series of contracts.

Tamworth Probation Service has awarded an internal refit contract to the firm's Western Region based in Stourbridge. The project, at the probation office in Moor Street, Tamworth, is worth more than £325,000.

The work involves office conversions and refurbishment, and will be carried out by Mansell's Interiors division. Mansell Construction Services has clinched a contract worth more than £900,000 to build a sports hall at Streetly School, Walsall. It has also been awarded a £ 760,000 Warwickshire County Council contract for an extension and alterations to Studley Community Infants School in High Street, Studley.
