West Bromwich Albion will soon have a shop window to the world following its take up of Cybertill - a new high-tech cash till and e-commerce system that will ultimately enable fans across the globe to browse its souvenir shop.

The Premiership football club is one of the first in the country to snap up Cybertill, a high tech EPoS (electronic point of sales) system capable of running a company's tills and web-based e-commerce systems by remote control.

Bosses at the club are so impressed that they now have plans to use Cybertill to set up an internet shop selling goods from the souvenir shop to Baggies' fans worldwide.

Ian Tomlinson, managing director of Cybertill, said football clubs were seeing Cybertill's potential to target the booming worldwide sports merchandise market.

"Soccer is now a world wide industry, with most British clubs having a fan base overseas. Cybertill software means they can market their club paraphernalia that is normally sold in the shop on the worldwide web," he said.

"I am delighted that West Bromwich Albion has recognised the enormous benefits that the Cybertill technology can bring to its football merchandise operation.

"It will enable the club to reach a lucrative worldwide market and importantly, it is cost effective in that it reduces stock holdings by between 20 and 40 per cent.

"It will mean they can keep a firm grip on their business without the cost of employing their own IT specialist, because Cybertill handles all the maintenance," he added.

Cybertill is an EPoS system which registers every time a product is scanned at a till, meaning companies can get instant information about stock numbers.

The system can be integrated into the firm's website, but St Helens-based Cybertill operates and updates it from a distance for a monthly fee, as if by remote control.

This means that, unlike with other EPoS systems, companies do not need to employ their own IT manager and lengthy manual stock checks are eliminated.

The data can be accessed from a laptop or any till, subject to strict security, meaning managers get instant stock and cash flow data at the click of a button.

Paul Bradbury, retail manager at West Bromwich Albion, said: "The previous retail management system we used wasn't web-based and it's the speed of use and versatility that has really impressed us with Cybertill.

"If we have new products it's great to be able to load them into the system in minutes rather than hours and it's great that the system is controlled remotely. I have often accessed the system from other locations, including home, which is invaluable.

"We are not using it to sell our products on the internet at the moment, but that is the next step for us. We need to make ourselves more competitive by providing web-based sales and Cybertill will make that possible."

Cybertill is already making huge waves in the EPoS and e-commerce market and has a £3 million turnover just three years after its launch.

Cybertill is already delivering EPoS for the Imperial War Museum and has signed an agreement with IT giant Fujitsu to promote the system to new markets.

Other football clubs which have snapped up Cybertill include Millwall, Carlisle United and Sunderland.
