Air India has cancelled all flights to and from Birmingham.

The move from the airline comes into effect from this weekend - Saturday, March 16.

The airline announced the news to shocked passengers on social media.

Twitter and Facebook users have been informed of the news.

Air India is now urging anybody affected by the flight chaos to seek refunds.

The flight company revealed: “Important update for our valued passengers.”

Air India then posted a photo showing a table of all of the affected flights.

The suspended services are: AI113 Delhi-Birmingham; AI114 Birmingham-Delhi; AI117 Delhi-Amritsar-Birmingham; and AI118 Birmingham-Amritsar-Delhi.

The airline has suspended flights amid chaos in India, owing to air strikes over Pakistan.

Air India added: “We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused to our valued passengers and request passengers to collect a full refund.”

The suspension is ongoing, the firm added.

Air India said passengers will be unable to travel “until further notice”.

Birmingham Airport itself tweeted: “All Air India flights operating from Delhi & Amritsar to Birmingham Airport commencing from 16th March 2019 are currently suspended.

"Please contact your airline for further information.”

Consumer watchdog Which? says: “Your right to compensation for cancelled flights depends on the reason for the cancellation.

“If the airline can prove the cancellation was caused by ‘extraordinary circumstances’, no compensation is payable.

“Extraordinary circumstances are situations beyond the control of the airline, for example, security risk, political instability or severe weather that makes flying dangerous.”
