An Edgbaston property agent - founded by four friends with no industry experience - is now looking to expand over-seas on the back of its success.

City Life, which let around £50 million-worth of property in Birmingham last year, now hopes to target other major UK cities.

The company was founded in Spring 2004 by four friends - independent financial advisor Amar Aslam, design engineer Omran Akhtar, restaurateur Farhad Aslam and financial controller Barkat Ali.

With an initial investment of £250,000, the company now has a turnover of £2 million and hopes to set up a Leicester office within the next eight months.

"We're very ambitious as a company and have invested significantly in our team and offices to ensure to stay one step ahead of the competition," said Mr Aslam, who is investment director for City Life.

Despite looking further afield, the company still has an interest in the opportunities available in Birmingham.

"Just take a look at the number of new office schemes over the next five years in Edgbaston alone and you can see a big potential for the rental and sales market," he said.

"Projects such as The Cube extension of The Mailbox also give us huge cause for excitement," he added.

The company also hopes to expand its operations abroad, with the launch of an overseas division planned in the next few months.
