Birmingham-based printing company Advek has been appointed official commercial print partner by Aston Villa FC.

Advek director Graeme Thurman described the deal as the “icing on the cake" for the Newtown firm.

‘‘This year has been a vital one for Advek. Considering the company was on the brink of closure before I bought it earlier this year, there has been a massive turnaround in terms of output and confidence.

“Aston Villa is Birmingham’s biggest and best-loved brand, and to be trusted by that organisation to manage the enormous projects that we have been tasked with is a massive coup to Advek.”

Mr Thurman has already made a huge impact on Advek. After purchasing the firm to secure its future, he installed new equipment and appointed further staff and increased turnover by 30 per cent.

“This contract is the icing on the cake," he said. "It has proved that you don’t have to be a massive organisation to gain the support of a major player – you just have to be competitive, efficient and trust-worthy."

Russell Jones, of Aston Villa, said: “The high-paced nature of the football industry means that the ordering of marketing materials is often very reactive.

‘‘Advek have proved during the last six months that they can continually meet Aston Villa’s very high expectations both in terms of quality and speed of delivery, which is why we were delighted to welcome them on board as an official partner.”

Mr Thurman added: “We hope this is the start of a lasting business relationship, and we wish the team a very successful season.

‘‘Of course, it helps that we are big Villa fans and that we have a legitimate excuse to ensure all is going smoothly by attending as many matches as possible!”
