A new range of clothing for people in care which is easier to put on and take off has been launched by a Birmingham company.

Adaptawear, based in Hall Green, says its clothes make life easier for care professionals, carers and the wearers themselves, using new kinds of fastenings to make the clothes more manageable.

They replace buttons and zips with magnets and other easy-open fastenings.

The range includes both outer and under-wear to enable the wearer to get dressed more easily, without needing help, as other kinds of clothes might mean. Carers' needs are also considered with a selection of open back clothes available to make dressing others simpler.

Adaptawear managing director Kavita Chauhan said: "I hope Adaptawear can not just deliver a unique product to the care market, but can also change people's lives. Having worked with the elderly and disabled throughout my career I know first hand how much of a difference clothing can make to a person's confidence and daily life and I hope my new company can make a contribution to the industry."

He added: "We have also given consideration to carers who can sometimes have difficulties dressing other individuals. In these instances, we have developed a fantastic range of clothes the allow carers to dress another person with ease. When we showcased our clothing at the College of Occupational Therapists' annual conference last year, we had no idea that we were going to be received with such excitement and relief that finally there are clothing choices to help people with physical limitations. This confirmed what I thought from the beginning and Adaptawear was born."

The range was launched at the Naidex exhibition at the NEC last week.
