A £20,000 donation by a Birmingham demolition company has breathed new life into a city oasis.
Coleman & Company wanted to support an initiative close to its base in Great Barr to mark its 50th birthday and chose neighbouring Holly Wood Local Nature Reserve.
The money has paid for a new kissing gate entrance and Sandwell Council was able to use the donation to secure match funding which has also helped create a new pond and improve landscaping, paths and fencing.
Children from nearby Whitecrest Primary School created designs that were incorporated into the gate by artist Tim Tolkien, great nephew of Lord Of The Rings author JRR Tolkien.
Mark Coleman, managing director of Coleman & Company, said: “The gate and project are a fitting commemorative landmark to my grandparents who set up the business 50 years ago.”
The improvement works were undertaken by Coleman & Co, Forkers, civil and ground engineering contractor G&H Fencing and A Plant.
