A Birmingham bar has the best selection of gin in the world according to industry professionals.

Jewellery Quarter bar 40 St Paul’s has been awarded the coveted title by Gin magazine's annual Icons of Gin Awards.

The bar, in 40 Cox Street, beat world renowned drinking holes including trendy San Francisco hotspot ABV thanks to its menu of over 140 gins.

The Icons of Gin Awards is based on nominations from the drinks industry, with winners voted for by fellow spirits professionals.

They comprise of 18 categories,  including hotel bar of the year - won by Dukes Hotel in London and distillery attraction of the year - won by Edinburgh Gin.

40 St Paul's is helmed by Amanjot Singh Johal and was opened in December 2015.

Smethwick born and bred Amanjot previously worked as a bar manager at The Church pub in Great Hampton Street. He said he was inspired to open the bar due to the lack of gin only places in Birmingham.

This is not the first award for 40 St Paul's.

Eton Mess G&T

Last year it was recognised as Best Gin Bar in the UK by Gin magazine and was awarded Best Gin Menu in the UK 2017 by Imbibe magazine thanks to its extensive selection of gins and gin based cocktails.

The bar also hosts a number of events including gin, cheese and chocolate tastings.

40 St Paul's is open Tuesday - Friday 5pm - 11pm and Saturday 3pm - 11pm. It is closed Mondays.
