Midland singer-songwriter Gary Nock makes a return to his old stomping ground when he headlines Best Seat Sessions at Ort Cafe, on Moseley Road, Balsall Heath on Friday (March 7).

Gary is best known for his song Make It Better, which was chosen for a major Mars bar advertising campaign.

He later adapted the song as Oh To Be A Villan , in honour of his beloved Aston Villa.

Gary has shared the stage with stars such as Ed Harcourt & Newton Faulkner, and some renowned songwriters and producers, including Rich Causon (Ryan Adams), Mads Hauge (Pixie Lott) and David Saw (Ben Taylor).

Gary also collaborated with Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody and The Voice’s Bo Bruce on a song for Star Trek Into Darkness.

Support at the Ort Cafe, which is opposite the Moseley Road Baths, comes from American-born multi instrumentalist Lobelia Lawson and Birmingham singer-songwriter Robert Lane.

Robert was chosen by the LG Arena to perform before concerts by Dire Straits front man Mark Knopfler, Ellie Goulding and John Mayer.

In May 2013 he opened for Eric Clapton in London and, in August, he was one of 15 people selected to attend a songwriting retreat/course with Kinks front man Ray Davies.

• Tickets for the Ort Cafe gig cost £5 in advance and £7 on the door. More information is available at the Ort Cafe website.
