Katherine Jenkins brought glad tidings to Birmingham with this sell-out Christmas show.

The 32-year-old mezzo-soprano said she had been in festive mood since she began recording her new Christmas album back in June.

So it was jingle bells all the way as faultless Katherine performed Away in a Manger, Deck the Halls, The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire) etc at Symphony Hall, which she described as one of her favourite venues.

Backed by the National Symphony Orchestra, the ever smiling Katherine (has anyone ever seen her pull a strop?) also did her best blonde bombshell impression during a cheeky Santa Baby.

Her special guest, the likeable American tenor Nathan Pacheco, also garnered the festive spirit by crooning Silver Bells and It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.

Putting Christmas to one side, Katherine treated her fellow Welsh natives in the audience with bursts of Bread of Heaven, Men of Harlech, Tom Jones’s Delilah and the Welsh national anthem.

Predictably, a Q&A session resulted in several marriage proposals but we also learned that her nickname is Nelly because she sounds like an elephant while doing her vocal exercises.

Katherine earned a round of applause when she reminded the audience that earlier this year she came second on Dancing With the Stars, the American version of BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.

Sadly, there was no repeat of the breath-taking jive Katherine performed on Sunday’s Strictly show, admitting “it feels strange just standing here singing without breaking into a little shimmy”.

Never looking so slim, Katherine wowed the crowd with her fourth frock of the evening, a red ruffled number with a 10ft train that she wore on her recent ITV special Steppin’ Out.

The evening concluded with a Christmas singalong (lyrics provided) and Katherine said goodbye with a fitting Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.
