THE latest addition to Edgbaston’s new “village” hub in Highfield Road is set to open its doors tonight.

The Edgbaston, a new luxury boutique hotel from the team behind Warwickshire’s award-winning hotel and cocktail venue The Kenilworth, is opening with just six rooms for guests but boasting three cocktail bars.

Since its launch ten years ago The Kenilworth has been named among the UK’s 50 best bars by The Independent and scooped a number of accolades in national bar and restaurant awards.

Now its owners, brothers Stuart and Darren Insall, are hoping to duplicate the success of the 16th century Kenilworth cottage at The Edgbaston, a building dating back to 1847 and restored with a modern take on the art deco style. Darren said: “This is our first venture into a city to appeal to a much larger population, and that’s really exciting for us.

“We class what we do as hospitality, not just service. Anybody can serve but it’s about how you make the customer feel.

“We want everyone that walks through the door to feel warm and to feel special.”

The art deco makeover of the historic building includes dark walls, panelled and mirrored bars and golden banquette seating.

A library bar, with space for just 35 people beneath a bespoke chandelier, is where The Edgbaston’s cocktail masterclasses will be held.

The main bar, a large open room with space for 100, opens out to a rear garden where street food will be served on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

And a cellar bar will be a late-night snug where up to 55 people can sample The Edgbaston’s rare collection of spirits beneath a striking art deco geometric pattern on the ceiling.

The hotel is a new neighbour for Simpsons restaurant and sits opposite the Highfield Townhouse, a new restaurant and bar set to open this summer.
