A ten-year wait for the regeneration of Stirchley's local centre is nearly over after Tesco was given the go ahead for its new store.

The council's planning committee gave their unanimous support to the scheme which it claimed would regneration one of the city's struggling local centres.

The Lifford Business Association, which has 200 members in the area, had called for greater community contribution from Tesco towards a new Business Improvement District and Town Centre Manager.

But officials said they could not require greater contributions from the store.
