Lichfield MP Michael Fabricant has said there is “a growing witch hunt mentality" following the allegations of sexual harassment at Westminster.

A ‘spreadsheet of shame’ is said to have been leaked accusing sitting Conservative MPs of inappropriate behaviour.

The harassment accusations were subsequently discussed in the Commons yesterday where Mr Fabricant stressed that the allegations must be substantiated.

Speaking on BBC’s Newsnight last night Michael Fabricant said: “It is not fair, actually to base things on rumour. There has to be evidence and there must not be witch hunts.

“I feel there is a growing witch hunt mentality currently going on.

“We have got to ensure that inappropriate behaviour is stamped out, it is wrong, it is unprofessional but at the same time we don’t want to see individuals who have been blameless accused of things which maybe they have not really done or maybe at the time everyone was sloshed - you sometimes get that.

“We have got to be careful that we don’t get into that situation.”
