There’s been no shortage of problems for Andrew Mitchell in recent years – but holding on to his seat shouldn’t keep him up at night, according to bookies.

Former Government chief whip Mr Mitchell, who has been caught up in the Plebgate scandal, is 100/1 on to secure Sutton Coldfield again for the Conservative party in the 2015 General Election .

Sutton Coldfield is Birmingham’s bluest constituency and even in New Labour’s pomp in the late 1990s it never got close to changing that.

Mr Mitchell won with 54 per cent of the vote last time, with Labour ’s Robert Pocock getting little more than a third of that.

It will again be Mr Pocock standing for Labour, but Ladbrokes make his odds of success 100/1 against, the same as the Liberal Democrats .

It is UKIP ’s Marcus John Brown predicted for second place this year, at 16/1 for a victory.

All odds are subject to change and were correct at the time this story was written.
