Labour is on course to gain up to four seats in the West Midlands this year, according to bookmakers.

The Post has looked at bookies’ odds for 25 seats around Birmingham and the Black Country, which suggest Labour will take the Wolverhampton South West and Halesowen and Rowley Regis seats from the Conservatives in the 2015 General Election.

They also make Benefits Street star White Dee second favourite to secure the Ladywood seat – although at 50/1 they aren’t giving it much chance.

It is not all bad news for the Tories though, with three bookmakers suggesting Solihull candidate Julian Knight is a strong favourite to secure the seat from Liberal Democrat Lorely Burt.

The region’s other Lib Dem seat – Birmingham Yardley – is projected to be one of the country’s closest battles, with bookmakers unable to split incumbent John Hemming and Labour challenger Jess Phillips.

They also can’t pick a winner in Dudley South, the seat being vacated by Tory Chris Kelly, with Labour and the Conservatives both given the same odds.

UKIP is not projected to win any seats this year but pollsters and bookies both agree Nigel Farage’s party will make major gains in many Black Country seats.

If the bookies are correct, Labour will secure 18 of the 25 seats around the region, with the Tories securing five and the remaining two too-close-to-call.

Matthew Shaddick, head of political odds at Ladbrokes said UKIP had “a few decent chances” in the region, suggesting their top three prospects are Dudley North, Walsall North and Dudley South.

Ladbrokes is also offering odds on White Dee in Ladywood, despite the fact she isn’t a politician.

He added: “One other notable point is that we quote White Dee at 50/1 to win Birmingham Ladywood, as she’s floated the idea of standing.

“We calculate the odds using a combination of the 2010 result, current opinion polls, specific local factors and money staked from Ladbrokes customers.”

All odds are subject to change and were correct at the time of publication.
