A city MP who was barraged with rape threats shortly after being elected has been subjected to more trolling on social media.

Jess Phillips , who revealed earlier this year she was sexually assaulted as a teenager, was subjected to hundreds of posts on Twitter on the subject of rape last night.

The Labour MP for Yardley has become a target for trolls after revealing she had received tweets from people “threatening to rape” her last year.

She has since launched a campaign to end "sexist bullying" online.

This time, she spoke out being barraged with responses after responding to a poster who announced “I wouldn’t even rape you”.

She tweeted: “To see the attack of a pack on here check out my mentions 600 odd notifications talking about my rape in one night. I think twitter is dead.”

Birmingham’s newest MP has become a regular target for trolls on social media.

Last October, she received a barrage of disparaging tweets and messages threatening to rape her after she appeared in a backbench business committee where the Conservative MP Philip Davies called for a House of Commons debate on International Men’s Day.

At the time, she posted: “Today my son is 7. I’m glad he is not old enough to go on internet and find all the people threatening to rape me.”

The Mail reported in February Ms Phillips was the victim of a sexual assault as a young woman.

She was pinned to a wall in a bar at the age of 19 by a man who put his hand up her skirt, the MP said.

She slapped her assailant in the face – only to be thrown out of the bar for defending herself.
