The Sunday Times recently released its annual best places to live guide, which gave us a look at the some of the best towns, villages and suburbs to live around the Midlands.

As these areas are considered some the best places to live in the region, they typically command very high property prices.

We’ve had a look for some bargain properties in a selection of the best areas, and found houses that are currently up for sale for below the average price paid.

We’ve found some cheap properties in Moseley, Leamington Spa, Ledbury, Leominster, Shipston-on-Stour and Upton-upon-Severn.

Moseley, Birmingham - Average price paid: £237,481

It can be difficult to find a house under £200,000 near the ever-popular Moseley Village.

Described by the Sunday Times as “ liberal and metropolitan, but not elitist”, property prices are often much higher than the rest of Birmingham.

For £40,000 less than the average price paid in Moseley, you could get this terraced house, right next to the excellent Cannon Hill Park and a short walk from the centre of Moseley.

The house comes with three bedrooms, off-road parking, an attractive rear garden and is located in a quiet cul-de-sac.

Leamington Spa - Average price paid: £319,022

The royal town of Leamington Spa returned to the best place guides after slipping off the list last year due to the flooding of Jephson Gardens, which forced the closure of the park.

We recently looked at what makes Leamington one of the best commuter towns for Birmingham.

One of the downsides of area that we mentioned in this guide was the high price you’ll typically need to pay to bag a property here.

If you look hard enough, however, you might be able to find a bargain like this terraced house.

Just 1.5 miles from the sought after town centre, and for around £140,000 cheaper than the average, this house is definitely a good deal.

For your money, you get three bedrooms, lounge/diner, a garage and off-road parking.

Ledbury, Herefordshire - Average price paid: £247,057

Ledbury won the top spot in the best places to live guide last year, and is described as a “lovely old Tudor market town”.

For a quiet village tucked away in the Herefordshire countryside with narrow lanes and only one supermarket, houses here do fetch some expensive prices.

Although, for just £150,000, you could get this end-terraced house, just a short walk away from the traditional Tudor charms of the village centre.

The property has very attractive gardens to the front and rear, and comes with two bedrooms and two receptions rooms.

Leominster, Herefordshire - Average price paid: £217,595

The Sunday Times calls Leominster the “least likely place in Britain to have a starbucks.” and it is definitely something of a ‘hidden gem’.

If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life, this is the perfect place - although, houses normally sell for over £200,000, so you may be hard pressed to find somewhere if you are on a budget.

Just the outskirts of the town, you can get this three bedroom house for £140,000, which is even difficult in Birmingham.

The house is attractively decorated, and is within walking distance of the town centre, with a shop and a bus stop just outside.

Shipston-on-Stour, Warwickshire - Average price paid: £367,669

The most expensive area on our list was also the winner of the best place to live in the Midlands.

The Sunday Times gave the area the crown for its community spirit and great selection of things to do, such as real pubs, cafés, independent shops and picnic spots.

Properties regularly sell for as high as £500,000 around the town, but we found this property for just £170,000.

Although, it does need some decorating, it could become a great family home in the best place to live in the Midlands with a bit of work.

The two bed semi is described as “deceptively spacious” by the estate agent.

Upton-upon-Severn, Worcestershire - Average price paid: £246,190

Upton-upon-Severn in an amazingly picturesque town in the Malvern Hills, and is actually the smallest town in the county, according to the 2011 census.

Although the town is tiny, it more than makes up for this in terms of pubs, and has three major music festivals every year.

Buying a house here can be expensive, but we have found this listed cottage for just £97, 000 - which makes it the cheapest house on this list.

The cottage might also be one of the most unique, with many original character features.

However, a big drawback of this property is that, much like the town of Upton-upon-Severn, the house is on the small side.

With just two rooms, with the lounge and bedroom being the same room, this might be a bit cramped if you wanted to turn this into a family home.

Although, considering the location, this could be a great spot for a holiday rental or AirBnb style accommodation.
