Some cars don’t shout about themselves. They just quietly get on with doing the job they’re bought for.

Applying those criteria, Nissan’s Note is one of the quietest cars on the market. It’s a capable thing, if a little dull, so we can forgive Nissan for giving it a bit of a spruce up in the shape of this new Black Edition, based on the Acentra trim spec.

The key’s in the name. Outside, this Note gets black gloss door mirrors, door handles and pillars, a black boot spoiler, and black 16in alloy wheels. Inside, the dash, gear stick, door handles, and headliner all get the inky treatment.

There are no body changes, but the visual mods (especially the black wheels) do succeed pretty well in sporting up the Note.

Sadly there’s no indication that the 140bhp Note Nismo will ever escape beyond its home Japanese market. The Black Edition keeps the usual two engine options – the 1.2-litre DiG-S petrol and 1.5 dCi – each available in two power outputs. You can get a CVT transmission if you choose the more powerful of the two petrol engines.

You will get electric rear windows as standard, but you’ll still have to pay extra for Nissan’s NissanConnect system.

Black Edition prices haven’t been announced yet.
