Police are appealing for witnesses after a ten-year-old boy was seriously injured in a hit-and-run car accident in Birmingham.

The boy, who has not been named, was on a pedestrian crossing with his mother when the incident happened on Ladywood Middleway, close to Ladywood Police Station, on Saturday.

A police spokesman said the boy was in collision with a dark-coloured vehicle which failed to stop.

A large crowd gathered at the scene and police believe some of those who were there may be able to identify the car and driver, who is described as an Asian male.

The boy was taken to City Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
