Designer cakes, chocolates and T-shirts are set to line the shelves of an iconic Birmingham shop as part of its 10th birthday celebrations.

The limited edition products will go on sale at Selfridges as part of a host of events and activities taking place to mark the Bullring’s milestone anniversary.

Selfridges, the shopping centre’s best-known store because of the eye-catching 15,000 aluminium spun discs on its walls, was first opened in September, 2003.

It now boasts an average of 175,000 visitors a week and 9.1 million shoppers a year.

A spokesman for the department store said: “It’s been an incredibly successful decade for Selfridges, which has been at the forefront of fashion with the most coveted brands from Victoria Beckham to Alexander McQueen.

“To celebrate, we promise to surprise, amaze and amuse by delivering unique customer experiences with an array of party events and activities designed to create memorable moments for all.”

It’s not just high fashion that’s flying off the shelves. In the last decade the store has sold 19 million Krispy Kreme donuts and 750,000 MAC lipsticks.

Now it will be flogging commemorative silver disk birthday cakes by top baker Fiona Cairns, as well as silver chocolate coins and T-shirts by label Eleven Paris. Parties and beauty events will be held from September 4 to 8, with music from celebrity DJ Tinchy Stryder.

And a variety of other events will also be staged across the Bullring – including The Show: Ten.

Featuring models dressed in the must-have trends for this autumn and winter, the series of catwalk shows will be hosted by The Saturdays singer Mollie King.

Louise Hamer-Brown, Bullring regional marketing manager, said: “As it’s our tenth birthday, there will be a few surprises along the way that people will absolutely not want to miss.”

The catwalk show will be staged five times at the Bullring on Saturday, September 28, and fans will be able to see Mollie live on stage at 11am, 1pm, 3pm, 5pm and 7pm.

It will also be staged on Sunday, September 29, at 11.30am, 1pm and 3pm – but without Mollie hosting the event.

The Show: Ten will be the finale of Bullring’s birthday celebrations, which begin on Wednesday, September 4.

The Bullring event also forms part of fashion extravaganza Style Birmingham Live. It will see Sutton Coldfield-born Big Brother presenter Emma Willis and X Factor’s Rylan Clark hosting a series of catwalk shows at the Town Hall – also on September 28.
