The family of the baby boy who died in a fatal road traffic collision in Smethwick on Saturday have released a photo of the baby.

Two-month-old Mohammed Isa was taken to hospital with serious injuries following the collision on Grove Lane at the junction with Painters Corner shortly after 6pm. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

A silver Mitsubishi Evolution, registration R54 RMW, was travelling along the dual carriageway towards Oldbury when it was in collision with a silver Toyota Corolla.

Mohammed was travelling in the Corolla. The driver of the Corolla and three passengers, two men and a woman, all suffered serious injuries. They were taken to hospital where they remain in a stable condition.

The driver and passengers of the Mitsubishi left the scene of the crash before the police arrived.

A 31-year-year old man from the Smethwick area has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop after a road traffic collision.

He remains in police custody helping officers with their enquiries.

Three men who are believed to have been travelling in the Mitsubishi have been interviewed by police.

Inspector Mark Watkins, from the Collision Investigation Unit, said: "The community response to media appeals has been tremendous and officers have spoken to a number of witnesses.

"We are still keen to speak to anyone who saw the accident or has any information about the silver Mitsubishi.

"Anyone with any information is urged to come forward urgently to help us with our enquiries."
