Birmingham’s major business district will host its first ever live music festival – which will see talent from across the country brought in to entertain city professionals.

The Colmore Business District (CBD) Music Takeover will take place September 12 and 13.

The festival will see an eclectic mix of music talent, from local upcoming artists to more established names such as Remi Harris, with other headlines to be announced in the coming weeks.

The two day music event is free of charge to attend and will take place during lunchtimes, between midday and 3pm, and in the evenings, between 5pm and 7pm.

Performances will take place in outdoor locations and indoor venues including Victoria Square, Church Street Square, Yorks Bakery Cafe and The Old Joint Stock, where people can see artists and bands playing everything from urban to jazz and folk.

Gary Cardin, chairman of Colmore Business District, said: “CBD’s Music Takeover is a new event that we are holding this year and adds to our comprehensive events programme in the area, which has included our Food Festival, mini film festivals, arts markets, sports events and photography exhibitions. We’ve chosen a variety of artists and bands that all have different sounds, so there will be something for everyone to enjoy.”

Remi Harris, guitarist and composer, said: “This event is going to be great fun and people will be able to experience the music in vibrant settings, where they can relax and enjoy themselves, whether it’s during lunch breaks or perhaps after a hard day at the office.”

Mr Harris has previously performed shows at Buckingham Palace, Hay-On-Wye Festival, Upton Jazz Festival and on BBC Radio 2.

Established in 2009 for a five-year term as a business improvement district for the commercial quarter of Birmingham, CBD has invested more than £3 million on improvement projects and services to the area.

Mr Cardin added: “The Music Takeover is a free festival and we encourage employees in the area to take full advantage of what’s on offer and enjoy the variety of music acts.”

A VIP launch event is set to take place on September 9 with a special performance from Mr Harris between 6pm and 8pm.
