Steven Spielberg is coming to Birmingham to shoot new sci-fi thriller Ready Player One.

Several streets in the Jewellery Quarter are to be transformed into a futuristic America in the feature film starring Simon Pegg, Mark Rylance and Ben Mendelsohn.

The central character is played by Tye Sheridan. The rising star portrayed the young version of Cyclops in 2016 superhero movie X-Men: Apocalypse and was also in The Tree of Life.

Residents and businesses in the Jewellery Quarter have been sent letters telling them about road closures linked to the Hollywood production.

Why are the roads being closed?

The closures - beginning on 7am on Friday, August 19, and lasting until 6am on Saturday, August 20 – are to allow set designers to get the streets ready for filming.

The Jewellery Quarter Business Improvement District says the production company organising the filming, Deep Blue Productions, has worked closely with traffic management “to ensure that the road closures have a minimal impact on traffic flow within the city.”

So when are the roads closed?

These are the details of road closures to get the streets reading for the filming:
