Reviews: How the region's Michelin-starred restaurants have fared with Post critics

As Michelin unveiles its 2015 list of the nation's finest restaurants, here is a look back at what the Post has said about the establishments over the past few years

Top chef Glynn Purnell is one of four in Birmingham city centre to hold a Michelin star

Birmingham's reputation as a hub for fine dining was cemented again today when four of the city's best-known restaurants retained their stars awarded by prestigious guide Michelin.

And in another boost for the West Midlands, Warwickshire venue The Cross, launched just a year ago by Simpsons owner Andreas Antona and led by its former head chef Adam Bennett, was awarded its first star.

Mr Bennett also featured in a look at Birmingham's 'Ones to Watch' for 2014 alongside another Michelin-starred chef, Glynn Purnell, actress Felicity Jones and Gregory Doran, artistic director of the Royal Shakespeare Company.

The 2015 award for the holy quartet of Adam's, Purnell's, Simpsons and Turners means that Birmingham is the only UK city to have four Michelin star restaurants outside of capitals London, Dublin, Edinburgh and Cardiff.

Below is a look back at previous stories and reviews the Post has carried about the Michelin-starred restaurants and, if you fancy trying other venues across the city, there is our guide to other places to eat and do business in the city centre:

- Adam Stokes spoke of his "huge honour" when awarded the star last year while our reviewer described her experience as "an off-piste adventure"

- Glynn Purnell runs both his main restaurant in Cornwall Street and a bistro just around the corner in Newhall Street - both receiving praise from the Post

- "Pure dining pleasure from culinary genius Adam Bennett" was the headline on our review of The Cross last Christmas

- The Post was welcomed back to Turners despite awarding the restaurant the 2011 worst dish for an experimental peanut soup

- Simpsons came in for high praise after a waiter helped smooth over a frosty family dinner for our reviewer
