Jean-Luc Colombo “Les Collines De Laure” Syrah 2013 (Rhone, France)

If you’re keen to get more into wines from the Rhone Valley (still in my view one of the last remaining places to get really good value wine from France) you could do a lot worse than explore the range of wines made by Jean-Luc Colombo .

JLC is a fantastic winemaker and his wines consistently impress.

And if you already know your Rhone Valley Wines? Well, you should drink this anyway….

This is produced from young Syrah vines (with “young vines” not necessarily being a derogatory term; there’s no guarantee of quality with a wine from “old vines”).

The wine is incredibly vibrant with red fruit scents immediately making themselves known. On the palate the notes of raspberry and strawberry leap out at you and the overall impression is what an intense, fruit driven and delicious wine this is.

I’m always reluctant to describe a wine as being a “good BBQ wine” but when drinking this I wished I was sat outside in the garden on a summer evening. It’d be perfect for such an occasion.

Available from numerous retailers for around £12.45 including Harrods, Dickens House Wine Emporium, Eynsham Cellars and TheDrinkShop.com. Summer evenings sold separately….
