With every passing year I seem to become a bigger and bigger fan of Pinot Noir.

Being somewhat less than scientifically enabled I don’t know if your palate matures as you age but mine is increasingly departing the shores of big and brash Aussie Shiraz and setting sale for Pinot Island.

With NZ Pinot though I’ve tended to favour Martinborough and particularly Central Otago whereas the Marlborough examples have often left me a little underwhelmed.

Thankfully this wine left me feeling rather more positive about Marlborough Pinot. It could of course be that I was drinking a wine at the upper end of the budget scale.

This retails at £22 in Majestic whereas you can (in the same retailer no less) pick up an altogether nastier Marlborough Pinot for nearer to £12. I’d encourage you to root around your pockets for that extra tenner, you’ll be glad you did.

The raspberry and plum notes and elegant nature of the wine make this a perfect wine for this time of year. Or, let’s face it, anytime of year really…..

Available from Majestic for £22.
