He may have just spent a fortune buying Aston Villa last week, but Dr Tony Xia, who’s apparently got a few hundred million pounds in his bank account, still has enough cash left over to bag himself a posh crashpad in Birmingham.

Rumour has it that the CEO/chairman/owner of Recon Group is looking to buy a home in the city. So, what would suit the needs of a 40-year-old, self-made businessman?

Presumably he wants to be close to Villa Park so he doesn’t have to endure the M6 for hours on end and it’s likely that he’d want plenty of space in which to relax after watching Villa play its first games outside the Premier League since it began in 1992 (and plot the team’s triumphant return).

And perhaps, as he is also apparently a trained landscape gardener, a home with a garden that he can enjoy some quality time in.

For a man of Xia’s means, he’ll want luxury.

We’ve rounded up the some of the best homes currently on the market in Birmingham that could pique Dr Xia’s interest – and would barely make a dent in his fortune.

Whether he plans to rename his Birmingham home Lotus Towers, to match his corporate brand – and to match his alleged wish to name Villa Park Lotus Villa Park – is anyone’s guess.

This is the property to buy if Dr Xia wants to create his own grand design in the city. This development opportunity will enable the buyer to have a bespoke executive mansion on the Calthorpe Estate for £6 million.

The plot is on the market for the first time in 44 years and will see the existing property being demolished and replaced with a four-storey house spanning 12,303 square foot of internal space – far more than the average urban house in China, which has 646 sq ft of space (in the UK it’s 818 sq ft).

Plans for the home, which sits in 0.8 acre of land, account for an orangery, 12-seater cinema, garaging for six vehicles, sauna, three family rooms, two offices and two drawing rooms.
