A new craft beer bar at the heart of Birmingham’s business district that has the backing of one of the region’s best chefs is set to open next week.

Pure Bar and Kitchen, on the corner of Waterloo Street and Victoria Square, is backed by Purity Brewing Company’s Paul Halsey, Simpsons chef-patron Andreas Antona and former Mitchells and Butlers director Martin Hilton.

The enterprise, set up with support from the Birmingham Post Growth Fund, has transformed a Grade II-listed building that previously housed Chesterton estate agents before standing empty for nine years.

Inside, the heart of the building will have an industrial feel, with a hard-finished floor, stripped-back brickwork, exposed ceiling and white tiles behind the bar.

Dominating the room will be an imposing steel “brauhaus” on the bar, supplying 14 keg beers and flanked by ten cask hand pulls, which the owners believe could be the biggest in Britain.

The menu will feature classic British pub dishes with a modern twist, with meat coming from award-winning Leamington butcher Aubrey Allen, cured meats from Worcestershire charcuterie Forest Pig and cheeses from Shropshire’s Mr Moyden’s.

The owners had first hoped to secure a site beneath the Orion Building in Navigation Street but when the deal fell through at the end of 2012 they secured the new venue.

The new bar joins other craft beer outlets in the city like Brewdog, Cherry Reds and the Post Office Vaults.

The launch will be announced on @PureCraftBars and Facebook page.
