The company behind Langley’s No. 8 Gin is opening its first bar in Birmingham city centre.

Charter Brands, which creates the gin at Langley's distillery in Oldbury, is launching the venue in the Great Western Arcade.

The as-yet-unnamed bar will take up units 32 and 33 once occupied by Sims Footwear and a pop up shop called More By Design, which has since closed.

Here's how to make the perfect gin and tonic:

Sims has moved to a new shop unit opposite the planned bar.

Work has already started on transforming the 1,700 sq ft of space and an upstairs events area ready for an expected autumn opening date.

It seems Birmingham has a thirst for gin given the number of gin dedicated bars in the city - including the recently opened The Gin Vault in Broad Street and 40 St Pauls Gin Bar in the Jewellery Quarter - which opened late last year.

So we can’t wait to see what this Langley’s bar will look like once it opens and how it compares with the competition.

Mark Dawkins, director at Charter Brands, said: “Langley’s No. 8 is stocked in bars and restaurants around the city but, following a number of pop-up projects, we’re confident that now is the time for us to launch our own offering.

“The buzz around gin shows no sign of abating and consumers’ thirst to learn more about the history of the product, coupled with the growth of experiential events, makes this the right time for us to do this.”

The new bar will join Bistro 1847, Anderson & Hill, Bread Collection, Loki Wine, Sushi Passion and Treat Greek Deli at the Great Western Arcade.

Ahead of its official opening, the Langley’s team will give a taster of what’s to come at Birmingham Cocktail Weekend from July 15 to 17.

They will have a special pop-up bar where they will be serving signature cocktails, including the Celebration of Britain, which was chosen as the official cocktail to celebrate the Queen’s 90th Birthday by the Wine and Spirit Trade Association.
