Civil and structural engineering consultancy CWA is delivering a major contract to upgrade 10 primary schools in Coventry.

The Birmingham-based consultancy secured the brief to carry out the work on the schools which are being upgraded as part of Coventry City Council's 'Increasing Pupil Places 2014' programme.

Each of the schools, spread throughout the Coventry area, are being extended and upgraded, with new classrooms and facilities including dining spaces.

The work is being carried out in two equal phases, the first of which is due for completion this summer.

CWA, based in the Jewellery Quarter, was brought on board by Associated Architects, working on behalf of the city council.

Director Jim O'Donnell said: "We are proud to be helping to deliver the best possible learning facilities for the children of Coventry."

Judith Applegarth, from Coventry City Council, said the work would allow each school to increase the number of classes to accommodate the city's population growth.

"The expansion and refurbishment of the schools in the Increasing Pupil Places programme is providing a continuing boost to the provision of primary education in the city," she said.

"CWA's work on this programme is vital to ensure we deliver work of the highest quality."

The primary schools covered by the programme are Broad Heath, Frederick Bird, Clifford Bridge, Aldermoor Farm, Coundon, Hollyfast, Little Heath, Park Hill, Whitley Abbey and Corpus Christi.

CWA was established in 2011 as Copeland Wedge Associates and recently changed its name.
