A successful Black Country retailer is to create more than 2,000 temporary seasonal jobs this Christmas.

Willenhall based Poundland has more than 400 stores across the UK and will be recruiting for roles in most of its shops.

Further jobs will be available at ten temporary Christmas stores due to open over the next two months.

Poundland posted another set of strong results in July with turnover up by more than 21 per cent to £780 million.

Jim McCarthy, chief executive at Poundland, said: “Christmas is a really busy time for Poundland and we’re thrilled, especially when employment figures are so low, that we can offer even more people a job over the festive period.

“We’re looking for enthusiastic, hard-working people, who enjoy interacting with customers to give the best service possible.

“Last year approximately 30 per cent of our temporary colleagues secured permanent roles in the business following the Christmas period.”

Most stores will start taking on temporary staff from October 1.

To apply, potential employees are required to go into their local stores to collect an application form.

Alternatively, all roles will be advertised with local Job Centre Plus sites.
