A former Smart car dealership is to be transformed into a Van Monster commercial vehicle centre,

The lease on the building, in Coventry Road, Hay Mills, has been taken over by Northgate, which trades under the Van Monster brand.

It will take on a 6,000 sq ft building with showroom space to display 75 vehicles, and a workshop.

This site is the seventh Van Monster operation in the UK.

Joe Riddell, of Northgate, said: “This is an ideal flagship facility for us in the West Midlands as it meets all our operational needs and is set to generate a number of new jobs.”

Real estate consultancy firm Colliers CRE advised on the lease transfer by Mercedes-Benz to Northgate.

Associate director, John Roberts, said: “This is a typical example of operators reviewing, reconsidering and taking action to reflect their changing facility requirements.

“We anticipate this trend is set to continue as rising day-to-day operational costs are focusing operators’ minds on core businesses.”
