Birmingham car-maker MG has been confirmed as the official automotive partner to British Athletics in the build up to the Rio Olympic Games in 2016.

The British automotive marque will provide a fleet of MG6 and MG3 vehicles to support the organisation across a range of activities.

Both MG and British Athletics have headquarters in Birmingham, with MG located at the former Austin Longbridge site.

Birmingham is also an established supporter of athletics events, playing host to three televised events each year.

The city will also host the 2018 World Indoor Championships.

British Athletics CEO, Niels de Vos, welcomed the manufacturer to the athletics world, in a deal that follows on from a number of recent commercial announcements.

“We are thrilled and excited to be able to announce this partnership,” he said.

“MG is an iconic British brand representing innovation, speed and performance - and therefore is the perfect fit for British Athletics in one of the most exciting times for the sport.”

The announcement follows recording breaking global sales for MG in 2013, since the launch of the MG3 supermini in September last year.
