Car enthusiasts are being given the chance to take a look behind the scenes at the rejuvenated MG Motor UK factory at Longbridge.

From March 15 people can sign-up for a tour of the Lowhill Lane site, which has been associated with cars for more than 100 years.

Visitors will be able to combine a slice of automotive history with the chance to see how 21st century MGs are designed and engineered during the two-hour tour.

The tour spans everything from Lord Austin’s office, exactly as it was when the automotive pioneer sat behind his desk, to the site’s technical centre where 300 engineers work on new MG cars and components.

The site tour does yet not include the car production area but MG Motor UK hopes to add it to the itinerary in the near future.

Tours will operate every Thursday from 1pm and the visits are free. Places need to be booked in advance by calling 0121 251 6533 or emailing info@mgsalescentre.co.uk.

MG Motor UK has also marked the opening of its third new dealership of 2012.

Beechwood MG in Derby city centre will open its doors for business on March 29.

Rob Wood, Beechwood’s managing director, was a successful amateur rally codriver who competed in several Lombard RAC and Network Q Rallies in the UK.

The new dealership will have a staff of 15.

Mr Wood said: “Everyone here is really enthusiastic about being part of the new MG story.”
