A newly-wed Bromsgrove bride has taken her joy in creating ice-breaking party games for friends’ weddings to the next step by starting out in business on her own.

Lynn Jinks now runs Table Tasks – a company that provides wedding breakfast entertainment which can range from the austere to laugh-out-loud fun and frolics, depending on the client.

With help from Business Link West Midlands (BLWM), Ms Jinks was able to secure expert start-up and marketing advice to launch her company, just in time for the wedding fayre season throughout March where she hopes to net even more customers.

Ms Jinks said: “I have a fair bit of experience in managing corporate social events so one of my friends asked if I had any ideas that would create a real wedding buzz during their wedding breakfast, and since then, I’ve devised tasks for several other friends’ weddings.

“Many couples don’t consider wedding breakfast entertainment a priority but this can be one of the most essential turning points when arranging their big day. I know from experience as a bride that organising the wedding entertainment and the seating can be daunting.

“With so many important guests, it can be difficult to know where to place them and how to avoid any awkward silences and stilted conversations. So I came up with the idea of creating simple and effective ice-breakers which suit each guest.

“They are easy, fun and exciting and are a great way of getting guests interacting, laughing and talking. They are engaging ice-breakers and no two weddings are ever the same.”

Ms Jinks says whether a small or grand affair, wedding or civil partnership, Table Tasks can cater for all occasions. She has already generated significant interest among mainstream hotels and wedding venues including Best Western, Barcelo, Menzies and Bleinheim Palace.

“The games are suited to the tone of the occasion and the personalities of the bride and bridegroom and their guests. I meet up with the clients, discuss the seating plan then ask questions about the guests’ personalities,” she said.

Ms Jinks approached Business Link for advice on launching her business ideas and says that the service has proved vital to getting Table Tasks up and running.

“It has been great to have someone to assist with the launch of Table Tasks who has knowledge of getting a business started and also experience in the business world,” she said.

“My adviser has proved to be an enormous source of help and encouragement while also keeping me focussed on the basics, by giving me deadlines and targets to meet.”
