The Birmingham office of law firm Gateley has advised West Ham United on the sale of its Upton Park football stadium to London developer Galliard Group.

The cross discipline team was led by real estate partner Richard Pettifor and supported by real estate associate Helen Roberts and commercial partner Simon Pigden.

The deal will see the 35,000 capacity stadium transfer to Galliard Group’s ownership once the club has completed its move to the Olympic Stadium in 2016.

Mr Pettifor said: “We are delighted to have helped complete this sale within such a short timeframe.

“Having previously dealt with arrangements for West Ham United’s move to the former Olympic Stadium, we were expertly placed to advise on the sale of the club’s existing stadium.

“The team’s wealth of knowledge within the commercial real estate sector enabled contracts to be exchanged within 48 hours of receiving instructions.”

Gateley’s commercial real estate unit advises a wide range of clients on commercial property and related matters.

Clients include private and publicly quoted property investors, commercial and residential developers, contractors, professionals, local authorities, housing associations, investment funds and financial institutions.
