The singing talents of staff at Midland law firm FBC Manby Bowdler have seen the setting up of its own workplace choir.

Staff have been swapping their legal briefs for song sheets in a move echoing the workplace ensembles created by Gareth Malone in the BAFTA-award-winning BBC TV series The Choir.

The 25-strong choir at FBC Manby Bowdler, which has offices in Wolverhampton, Willenhall, Shrewsbury, Telford and Bridgnorth, is made up of partners, solicitors, paralegals and administrative and support staff.

It meets once a month to practice a repertoire, which so far has encompassed a mix of genres from traditional Christmas carols to gospel inspired mash-ups.

FBC Manby Bowdler’s staff choir has already performed at a variety of functions, including a fundraiser at St John’s Church in Wolverhampton, the firm’s annual carol service at Shrewsbury School and its staff Christmas party.

Having tested the waters and received plenty of positive feedback the choir is now looking to step-up its activities in 2015 and wants to secure more bookings across the region.

Associate solicitor and one of the choir directors, Charlotte Clode, said: “In the same way people will have seen the impact that Gareth Malone’s staff choirs had when he toured earlier this year, FBC Manby Bowdler is committed to the wellbeing of its team and there is a varied programme of social activities for staff members including our yoga and walking groups.

“The choir is just one of those initiatives and has really brought the offices and staff involved together as a team.

“We sing a wide variety of music, from choral favourites to chart hits and our recent launch performance at Shrewsbury School went really well.

“We would love to hear from charities and other organisations that would be interested in having us along to perform during 2015.”
