Birmingham-based commercial insurance broker the Oval Group is to be renamed following its acquisition by Arthur J Gallagher.

The combined business has created one of the UK’s top three commercial retail insurance brokers.

Oval’s rebrand comes in the wake of Giles Insurance Brokers in Birmingham becoming part of the Arthur J Gallagher brand earlier this year.

Arthur J Gallagher in Birmingham now employs more than 200 people across three offices on Newhall Street, Cornwall Street and Temple Row and specialises in insurance for property, corporate risks, charities and care, professional indemnity, waste management, trade credit and private clients.

Arthur J Gallagher’s £199 million acquisition of Oval in April saw it significantly expand its UK footprint, bringing into the fold 20 new regional branch locations across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The firm said Oval’s strong retail broking position in the UK and focus on medium to large corporate clients provided “a powerful complement” to the SME-bias of Arthur J Gallagher’s existing commercial insurance broking business.

The Oval acquisition means Arthur J Gallagher is now responsible for £1 billion of insurance premiums from more than 70 branch locations across the UK, employing approximately 2,000 people.

Peter Matthews, regional managing director for the Midlands, said: “Following the acquisition, our top priority was delivering a successful integration of the two businesses with minimum interruption to our valued customers.

“We’re delighted to announce the completed rebrand of Oval to Arthur J Gallagher across the UK.

“For our customers in Birmingham, it is very much business as usual.

“That said, we are now able to significantly widen our offering, providing more choice and better value for our business partners.”
