Beckford James Chartered Financial Planners has recruited Michael Shepherd to develop and expand its new Birmingham office.

Beckford James was founded in Bath by former directors of Chase de Vere Investments, Joseph Maguire and Mark Larbalestier, and their colleague Patricia Lake.

The growing firm said Birmingham was "the natural choice" for the location of its third office.

"Greater Birmingham has a strong reputation for delivering high quality financial services and from monitoring the growth of the sector in the region, Birmingham was the natural choice for us to launch our third office," said Mr Maguire.

The Birmingham office was founded by David Neale who merged his company, Adaptive Financial Strategies, with his former colleagues in December 2013.

Mr Shepherd was the winner of the Financial Services category in the Birmingham Young Professional of the Year Awards 2012. In August 2014, he will become the chair of Birmingham Future.

Mr Neale said: "Michael's appointment is a very exciting development for the business as we increase our presence in the city.

"We are committed to providing a highly motivated, dynamic and driven team to support our Birmingham and Midlands based clients, and I think this latest appointment evidences that."

Mr Shepherd said: "I am delighted to join Beckford James at this exciting time. The need for independent financial advice to individuals and companies is arguably at an all-time high following many recent changes to both pension and investment legislation.

"Beckford James is a chartered firm so we can provide a high level of advice on all areas of financial planning for both private clients and corporate clients."
