Neil Sumner has joined PwC in the Midlands as a director in the firm’s corporate finance team.

Mr Sumner joins PwC from engineering company, IMI, where he was global mergers and acquisitions manager.

He led transactional activity for the FTSE100 group globally, including the recent disposal of the company’s Retail Dispense business to the Marmon Group for £700 million.

Prior to joining IMI, Mr Sumner worked for KPMG in Birmingham for 12 years, most recently as corporate finance associate director, advising on company transactions including corporate and private disposals, buyside advice and refinancing.

In his new role Mr Sumner will be based in PwC’s Birmingham office and will lead the corporate finance team’s focus on industrial products, particularly in the automotive, aerospace and industrial engineering sectors.

He said: “I’m really pleased to join PwC in the Midlands. The corporate finance team here already provides a full range of industry-focused financial advisory services to corporates, management teams and private equity houses, and I’m looking forward to adding to this quality mix with my national and international industrial M&A experience.

“Additionally, as I am coming from a corporate role, I will be able to bring a new dimension to client relationships. I have been the person on the other side of fence, making the decision to invest or not, which will resonate with businesses in the local marketplace.”

Matt Waddell, partner and head of PwC’s corporate finance and deals businesses in the Midlands, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Neil to PwC in the Midlands.

“He brings with him significant experience and expertise in global M&A and the corporate environment.

“And, with the continued internationalisation of the deals market in the Midlands across multiple sectors, Neil’s industry skill set and experience will complement our corporate finance team’s offering to clients.”
