More than 70 West Midland companies found out more about how to get their share of the host of opportunities available in the world’s wealthiest nation.

UK Trade & Investment’s Black Country international trade team, who specialise in the Middle East, held a roadshow entitled Partnership Qatar, at Birmingham Repertory Theatre.

Qatar now has the highest income per capita in the world – more than $74,000 – and British exports totalled £691 million in 2008, an increase of 117.8 per cent on 2007.

At the event, delegates learned how the Emirate state plans to invest its vast wealth in the development of crucial infrastructure from UK Trade & Investment experts in the market and three major figures in the Qatari business network.

Key industries of focus for Qatar include security, healthcare, construction, oil and gas, education, financial services, legal services and tourism.

UK Trade & Investment international trade adviser Terence Madkins, based at Black Country Chamber of Commerce, said: “The opportunity to talk with overseas business people from the private sector proved a big hit with the West Midlands companies.

“The delegates were especially pleased to receive a wide range of support during the round table discussions.”
