A Black Country carrier company has purchased new land to aid its expansion plans with financial support from Barclays.

Cargo Carriers (Midlands) has purchased the 2.5-acre site in Bagnall Street, Tipton, from Sandwell Council which will enable the company to house extra vehicles.

Cargo Carriers was formed in 1992 and offers services for deliveries and collections within the haulage sector as well as supporting other large and small hauliers with which they work in partnership.

The family-owned business operates a fleet of company-owned vehicles ranging from vans to articulated lorries and employs more than 70 drivers.

The land it purchased was unoccupied by Sandwell Council and will safeguard the employment of workers as the business consolidates its operations and offers extra space to its haulage partners.

Director Shabeg Chahal said: "In order to meet the growing demand of our customers, it became necessary for us to find additional land to accommodate our clients' vehicles.

"This site met our requirements and, with Barclays help, we were able to act swiftly to complete the purchase."

Simon Freeman, relationship director at Barclays, added: "We have been working with the business for a number of years and are pleased to support them with this latest purchase."
