A young Birmingham tech company has raised around £975,000 to support development of its video research app.

Voxpopme, which is based in Zellig in Digbeth, has secured the funding round from existing shareholders and UK angel investors, led by Andrew Cooper, the co-founder of online panel firm Research Now, and its former chairman Geoff Westmore.

The company, which also has offices in Denver and Singapore, was founded by Dave Carruthers in January 2013 and has developed an app which can be used by members of the public to make short feedback videos.

Users of the app answer companies' questions and receive a small payment in return after which they can elect to keep the video private or allow it to be made public by the client via channels such as YouTube and Facebook.

Voxpopme has worked by household names such as eBay, McDonald's and Asda and seen 180,000 videos posted over the past 12 months.

This latest round of investment will support Voxpopme's next stage of growth and its stated ambition to become the industry standard for video capture and analytics.

Mr Carruthers, who outlined his growth ambitions to the Post last year, said: "We are excited to have the support of Andrew and Geoff.

"Their investment represents a strong vote of confidence in our belief that Voxpopme video will become a widely adopted medium across the research industry.

"This investment marks the next stage of global growth for Voxpopme and will support further our ambition to be the industry standard solution for anyone looking to add video capture with automated analytics to their surveys."

Voxpopme has previously secured funding from the Birmingham Post Growth Fund which enabled the company to ramp up its business team and marketing activity.

Mr Cooper added: "I am delighted to be involved in this exciting stage of growth of Voxpopme.

"The platform enables the unarguably powerful medium of video customer insight to be brought into businesses in a rapid, robust and easily analysable way - at a fraction of the effort and cost of existing approaches.

"Voxpopme brings the voice of the customer into businesses and their boardrooms in an impactful way that no decision maker can fail to understand."

The tool has previously been named App of the Week by both The Sun and Daily Star and last year the company travelled to the Next Web Conference in Amsterdam after being selected as one of Europe's the most promising start-ups.
