Short film showcases some of the buildings which will feature in a month-long programme of events taking a look behind some of Birmingham's neglected places

A new film showcasing the Hidden Spaces project looking behind some of Birmingham's neglected buildings was premièred last night at The Electric cinema.

The short film (above) is part of a month of events throughout June which include exhibitions, panel discussions and guide tours - see the full list here.

Among the buildings to feature in the calendar are Masonic Hall in Severn Street next to The Mailbox, Municipal Bank in Broad Street and a competition to win a walking tour of the tunnels underneath New Street station.

Fans of JRR Tolkien may also enjoy a beer tasting session at Perrott's Folly in Edgbaston.

The 96-foot tower, in Waterworks Road, was built in the 1750s by John Perrott and is believed to have been an inspiration behind Tolkien's books.
