A Birmingham-based social media entrepreneur has launched a healthy eating app described as ‘Instagram for food’.

The app, called WIET (What I’m Eating Today), was devised by 52-year-old Donato Esposito, a consultant specialising in change management.

Mr Esposito, from Rubery, is aiming to help people monitor their food intake by providing a simple food diary – a key step in recognising and altering eating patterns.

Mr Esposito also runs the Bostin Group which sells Birmingham and Black Country-themed T-shirts.

WIET is described as a social media app that enables users to post images of their food each day, targeting the psychology behind eating habits; taking the time to look at what they are eating, as well as making it public to the support and scrutiny of others.

The concept sees iPhone users take a picture of each meal before they eat it, recording it in a visual food diary, while the app links it to their news feed and social media.

“There are five key steps when it comes to adopting a healthy lifestyle: drinking more water, eating three balanced meals a day, eating more fruit and vegetables, exercising, and keeping a food diary to spot trends that are holding you back, and show your progress. And that’s where WIET comes in,” said Mr Esposito.

“People are always taking pictures of food and posting them online – to Instagram, to blogs, to Twitter and Facebook. WIET is a place where people can do it for a reason – to help monitor their food intake, improve their lifestyle and achieve and maintain a healthy weight and desired body shape,” he added.

The app is available to download from the Apple App store.
